Hello, my name is Nancy Ludwick. For years, my husband, Eric, and I have called Elizabeth Township our home, raising two beautiful children, Jenna and Ethan. Today, I’m reaching out not just as a mother and wife, but as someone in desperate need of help.
I am nearing the fourth year of battling kidney failure. Despite my efforts, I have yet to find a viable donor, and time is running out.
It all started nearly four years ago. One memorable Friday night during my son's football season, I was at Elizabeth High School, cheering on the boys with the other moms. I remember wondering if I was coming down with a cold because I noticed myself feeling tired and a bit short of breath. Later that evening when I was climbing the bleacher steps, the breathlessness seemed a bit more urgent. What followed was an unexpected hospital admission, a whirlwind of tests, and countless questions. It was a November day in 2021 that brought the unimaginable: a diagnosis of IGA nephropathy, a rare and incurable kidney disease. This condition causes relentless inflammation, ultimately pushing my kidneys toward complete failure.
This is where I find myself today. I rely on daily dialysis to survive, continually searching for hope that a donor will step forward—a match who can bring back the life I once enjoyed.
The consequences of this disease have taken a profound tool. I had to surrender my nursing career, a vocation I cherished and felt proud to be a part of. At home, daily activities that once brought joy—cooking dinner, engaging in family time, caring for my loved ones—have become daunting challenges. Each night, I undergo 10 hours of dialysis. This treatment keeps me alive, but it drains my energy and ability to live as I once did. I long to be the mom and wife my family remembers, the person who filled our home with laughter and love before this disease changed everything.
My doctors have made it clear: a living kidney donor is my best hope for a brighter future. While I’m on the transplant list, the odds are limited, and each day feels more precarious than the last.
If you or someone you know might be willing to consider donating a kidney, I urge you to reach out and/or get tested. The gift of life is unparalleled, and it could make all the difference for my family and me. Thank you for taking the time to hear my story. If you can help, and please share this message with others, it would mean the world to me.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Nancy Ludwick
